The U.S. Government Accountability Office has released a report that explores the financial risks to the federal government resulting from oil spills, particularly the Deepwater Horizon spill.
The report also assess the Coast Guard’s internal controls for ensuring that processes and payments for spill-related cost reimbursements and claims related to the Deepwater Horizon spill are appropriate, and describes the extent to which the federal government oversees the British Petroleum American Production Company and Gulf Coast Claims Facility cost reimbursement and claims processes.
