TRB is sponsoring the TRB/AASHTO Joint Roadside Safety Meeting on July 29-August 2, 2012, in Irvine, California. The meeting will focus on future goals and research needs that will help set the stage for the next versions of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Roadside Design Guide and the Manual for the Assessment of Safety Hardware. Both publications are expected to play a key role in reaching the AASHTO goal to reduce highway fatalities to less than 20,000 per year by 2030 or about half of the current level.
